Traditionally, massage therapy has been the most-requested service at spas in both the U.S. and worldwide. The Day Spa Association announced on May 5 the release of a new report detailing visits to spas and guest demographics.

The report’s purpose is to help spa owners, manufacturers and suppliers to better understand and define the current trends of day- spa guests.

Among the results:

• Men are still in the minority of day spa guests; however, they spend more and they are more loyal to a day spa facility than their female counterparts.

• People under age 25 spend less
at a day spa than do older spa guests, yet they are inclined to buy more take-home retail products.

• The 60-plus age group of spa guests is still small in numbers; however, these older guests spend more per visit than do younger spa guests.

The Day Spa Association’s report also addresses spending habits, the most desired service treatments, what guests remember about their , how they feel about the pricing and value of services, professional product sales and spa travel trends.

You’ve been hearing a lot from employees lately that they’re feeling stressed out and stretched thin. Managers in several departments note that morale is down, tension is up, and people are struggling to keep the smile in their voices when they talk to customers. And maybe the HR department is a bit stressed out, too. What can you do? Employee surveys or workload and staffing re-evaluations may come to mind, and those are good long-term approaches. But for a quicker solution, have you considered massage breaks?

facebook Using to promote your massage business can help to connect you with new clients.

The best thing to do is to build a fan page for your massage business.  That way it keeps things separate from your personal page.  People don’t have to become friends with you – they just become a fan of your page.  When people become fans then their friends and family who are connected to them on will also see that they are a fan of your page and it might inspire then to find out more.

Even with a page you really need a website to back you up and refer people too from the page that outlines all of your services, fees, location and is also filled with articles on why people should get regular weekly massage (yes weekly!) and how massage can help them.

To create a fan page first go to the small link at the bottom left hand side that says ads and pages.  It is there that you can create your page.  (I think!)  It took me a few hours to figure it all out and even now I am not quite sure about it all!)

Once you get your page created you can then create a badge to add to your website so people on your website can follow your page.  Also ask a few friends to follow you to get it going!

The one drawback to fan pages are that the wall and other postings don’t show up on your main wall which is what most people see first when they login to .

On your pages section you should also create articles and add photos.

I have also created a page for Massage Practice Builder and will be working on updating that and adding more content.

I actually can’t figure out the craze really but it is what it is.  People like .  It is fun and I have been able to connect with easily but keeping them all separate is a challenge.  You can create a separate friends list for clients and create different privacy settings.  You don’t really want clients seeing all your friends from high school or what you had for dinner or your new remodeling project.

I actually get much better results working on my website because I not only get to my website and clients from my website but it also makes me additional income while I am busy writing on my other sites and doing massage.  I actually have been busier than I ever have in my massage business right now for some reason.  The only thing I have been doing is writing an article now and then for my clinic site.

Relaxation tunes is a website that allows massage therapists to pick their perfect soundtrack for their massage therapy sessions.  I was on our facebook page, when I found this amazing website and became a fan of them immediately.  I tried to put myself in a massage ’s postition and frame of mind when I went shopping for what I think I would want for my clients during their massage.  I wasn’t sure what to excpect when I went to the website and I was totally blown away when I got there.  The music selections were endless!!!  I had no idea where to start!  The categories that are offered vary from Pure Nature,  which include sounds from dolphins and whales to lightning and the calming sounds of sailing away to the harmonic tunes of a cozy lounge to zen spirit and spa.  You can even get sounds from Africa, if that’s what makes your sun shine!

I took that two-week, nonworking vacation and now I’m paying for it. Aside from one prewritten blog post, I didn’t plan ahead for the work that was awaiting me. So I came home, in the middle of a week, in need of two doctor visits to deal with trip-related maladies. My desk, clean when I left, quickly became a jumble of work stuff and personal bills, all vying for my attention. In the next three weeks, I have business travel, family responsibilities and a few more deadlines than usual. I worked through my first weekend back, and I’m likely to do the same next weekend (on top of taking a business trip).
